Hi Folks, So I have verified waterpump seal most likely culprit, since water is dripping out behind the wp pully during pressure test. Who to take it to...dealer orr trusted local independant? Are ther aftermarket choices? ...and while I'm on the forum. Need to replace pads etc. What kind of pads? 2005 Z51, daily driver, aggressive driver. Thanks for the help in advance...happy days! Hawk has good pads. Also, how many miles on your car?

Verify the pump leak with a small articulating mirror to make sure that it is indeed leaking out of the water pump. There could be a leak above the water pump that is working it's way down and dripping at the pump area. Not saying that it isn't a water pump leak, just that it is cheaper to verify and not "assume". Good luck with it.

Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help. I am on the fence about doing the work or paying a shop. Last pump I replaced was my '79 Trans Am 25+ years ago! Seems like it should be easy enough...manuals are easy enough to download these days. Kevin

Many years ago, I saw a guy screw a self threading screw with an o-ring into the "weep" hole on a waterpump. Sure, it quit leaking, but we both know that's not what you're supposed to do!

HI there, The water pump is 6 bolts. Not that difficult once the air intake is removed. HOWEVER, if you have the water pump installed at a GM dealer, the part and the labor are lifetime warranty with the dealership installed. As for the rest, there are plenty of pads and rotors that will yield very good service. Hawk pads and others like that design resins will be noisy, but very operational when HOT!!! Your best bet is to realistically evaluate what your needs for brakes are and then realize that every brake pad is a compromise. Allthebest, c4c5 |
