Hi guys being a newcomer to the Vette scene having shipped my C5 Z06,from USA to the UK and now to Spain I was wondering if you could help me with the problem I have with the battery going dead after approx 1week.I have been looking at purchasing an Optima red top or an Odyssey battery as I have been told that these are sbout the best batteries on the market for a vette.I dont use the car every day so it can sit for a week or so before I take it out for a drive, only on good days.I have had the battery checked and it would appear to be OK,the battery fitted is a Napa battery with 630 CCA I dont know if this up to the job.I have also checked the drain on the battery and it does not seem to be excessive. Is it worthwhile putting a battery tender on the battery to keep it topped up.Look forward to your replies guys,Ray.

HI there, If your battery is going dead in one week, there is an issue. You do not mention HOW MUCH your drain is????? All batteries can be good and last for years, or they can fail in a week. 86-6YR is the battery for your car. Your CCA rating is NOT what it has tested at. It is key that your electrical draw is below 30 milliamps and the battery tests at 12.5 volts and 550 CCA. Allthebest, c4c5 |

1) You need to start by knowing for sure if the battery is good. A good battery will load to 1/2 it's cold cranking amps for 15 seconds with the voltage not going below 9.6V. Have it load tested at least twice to make sure that the suface charge is off. I load test batteries three times to verify that they are good. Don't skip this part, you have to absolutely/positively HAVE to know (and verify) that the battery you are using is good. 2) With a known good battery test for a parasitic draw with an ammeter. Disconnect the negative cable and place the ammeter leads between the battery cable and the battery terminal with the key out of the ignition and all doors shut. You should have 30 ma or less of a drain, if there is more than that you need to trace down the drain. Good luck with it.

Hi guys have just checked my battery and it showing 12.65 volts, also checked drain and it would appear to be about 100 milliamps with the alarm activated is this to much should I be looking elsewhere to see if something else is causing this much of a drain on the battery.Have checked all the obvious things ie,glove box light, visor lights, interior lights.Any thoughts, thanks.

Hi there, That is WAY too much draw. Do you have any aftermarket accessories ???? Is the alarm you are speaking of the aftermarket type ????? Allthebest, c 4c5 |

The only aftermarket accessory electrical wise is a boostapump and I dont think this is what is causing the problem. The alarm is the standard one fitted to the car and is operated via the original chevrolet key fob for the car.I have read o CCCUK that the switches for the drivers seat adjustment can give problems and put a drain on the battery.
