Hi. I would like to know how my 2008 C6 knows that the FOB is within range to either allow me to Start the car, or open the Hatch via the Hatch Button? I could imagine 2 possibilities. One is that the FOB is continually sending out a signal that the BCM can see when the FOB is in range. This would reduce FOB battery life. The second would be that when you push the Start or Hatch Button, the BCM sends out a query to see if the FOB is within range. The FOB can then respond. The latter appears to make more sense, but then how does the BCM know when someone walks away from the car with the only FOB when the vehicle is running? In this case, you are not actively pushing any buttons. What's the deal here? Thanks, M... | ||||||||||||||||||||

On further thought - is it the action of opening and then closing a door while the engine is running that causes the BCM to query the FOB? If that's the case, then you could theoretically throw the FOB out the window and you would get no messages from the BCM. Of course you would never do this. I'm just asking.
