I have a bone stock 84, with the 4+3 trans. My kids want to get me something fun, and were looking to buy a Jet stage 1 computer chip. Is it worth the effort to install, or even mess with? Thanks

In my experience, not really. On WOT, all emissions and CAFE stuff goes out the window on the OEM chip anyway. Were it an Auto, yeah revised shift points would be a benefit.

For C5, the Jet chips is a waste of money! I would get a air filter that looks cool when you open the hood and is free flowing for a few extra HP.

For any model the Jet chips are basically worthless. You will be hard pressed to find anything that's going to give you the wow factor on the cheap for the '84 or any model really.

HI there, I agree here. Normally, a few things can be done. Exhaust, suspension changes and intake along with a faster compensating computer will also help you. There is a section about Crossfire at Corvetteactioncenter about almost everything. I will try to find alink. Allthebest, c4c5 |

A tune up and rebuilt fuel system may restore power you didn't realize you've lost. Have you checked your injectors, fuel pump?

I will need to buy a Hypertech or Jet chip because I bought a new ecm and my old ecm/prom had problems. I don't want to take a chance reusing it.

Be sure to take the separate CalPak chip out of the old ECM! You only get the long chip in the after-market set and remanufactured ECMs don't come with a CalPak. I was lucky--when I made this mistake, the dealer still had my old ECM on hand so I got it.

Actually the ecm was a used Delco reman and has both chips. It has a hypertech chip in it but it is for a California manual trans, so I will need to get a chip for 85 fed auto. The car runs with it and now can read the datalist ,fans now work etc. but I'm not going to drive it with that chip TCC etc.So I will go with an aftermarket chip for convenience.
