CM c4/5 opinion on regular gas ???

question came up the other day at club meeting....will continued use of regular gas (87 octane)in a daily driver c5/zo6 hurt the motor if driven in a civil manner, i.e. no track days, no all out full throttle runs etc., just driving like a normal car would be. thanks.

HI there,

No, this will not hurt your engine in anyway.

You will notice a reduction in power if you get on it and you may notice a little bit of pinging on acceleration, which is the detonation of 87 octane fuel in a higher compression engine.

Allthebest, c4c5

In addition to c4c5's comments, your over all mpg average may also be reduced.

reduced gas mileage, is that because low octane is less efficient or because motor less efficient??

HI there,

Its because the ignition timing has to be reduced to stop spark knock, which creates less MPG.

No doubt about it. Japan and the rest of us in this world are about to find out how expensive "clean, safe, effecient, and relatively cheap" nuclear power is going to be when we build our own power plants for the electric vehicles being forced on us. :)

If I'm driving on the highway for a few hours knowing I'll burn up a tank, I will usually put 89 octane in the tank.

Now go play with your tools!
