CM Changing idle

Hi,I have a 2006 with 6 speed and Z51. I purchased the car new and its never been driven hard.About 50% city driving and 50% on the freeways. When I drive my car on the city streets for about 2-3 days, the idle becomes rough and it will "buck" from a dead stop. After I drive it on the freeway,my car smoothes out at an idle, and won't "buck".Any suggestions what the problem might be? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thnk you ,Rod Brown

Paddle shift or stick? Have you checked your activated carbon decals?

My Vette is a stick. Rod. I don't know where the carbon decals are located or what they are. I never heard anyone refer to them before. Rod

The activated carbon decals are located upstream of the air cleaner element. They are inside the intake tract. There are 2. One on top, one on the bottom of the tract. They can loosen and detach with the help of engine oil that the PCV system deposits there. They will cause "drivability" issues by dirtying up the air the MAF sees. They don't have to completely detach for this to happen. All one has to do is "flap in the wind" and the MAF will go haywire. Usually, it happens just after when the engine is very full of engine oil and the revs are quite high.

To check your decals, all you gotta do is loosen the clamp @ the MAF/air cleaner and look down the tract for those stickers. They should be afixed and dry. The bottom one may not be...

Those stickers were put there to absorb gasoline vapors after shutdown.

Norty, a couple of follow up questions on the carbon decals. (1) What happens if the decal becomes completely detached? (2) If one finds a loose decal, or one missing, what are the proper next steps to correct the problem? Thanks.

Here you go~

1. When one decal has detached, it will cause MAJOR drivability problems because the decal will likely wrap itself around the wire in the MAF. This will cause the MAF to send erroneous data to the ECU, thus causing "confusion" to the ECU.

2. What some people are doing is to pre emptively remove the decals so they can't cause problems with the MAF.

The decals are there to reduce HC's from escaping upon shutdown where some intake valves remain open and the cylinder has fuel (unburned) in it. It was an EPA thing, so you know the science is faulty!

Hope this helps.

Norty, More help. What part do you mean by "tract"? I loosened the clamp at the MAF/air cleaner housing and found no sign of such decals in the housing. Removed the MAF from the bellows and see nothing clear back to the throttle body. Were all models so equipped or did they maybe start after mine was made? Mine is a base engine 2006, assembled December 15, 2006, VIN 1G1YY36U365112089.

However, I did find something attached to the plastic housing that peers up at you when you remove the two air cleaners. One on each side. With the air cleaner element installed, this think is directly facing the element. They are roughly 5 " by 6" in size, grey in color and about 1/16 inch thick. No labeling to identify what they are. Both are tightly adhering to the plastic housing.
