CM oil pan bolt seepage.

Paul,

my 07/A6 with 5,700miles was dripping oil from the pan drain nut. i just got a lift and when i put the car on it i noticed that the oil was coming from below the pan gasket. i cleaned it all up and then noticed in two days that it is seeping from a few bolts (driver side and 2 front). i do not believe that the pan gasket is leaking but the bolt are the issue. you posted back in time about this and said that you've replaced the bolts. should i buy new bolts or remove and reseal the old ones, if so, what is the sealant to be used?

as always,

THANK YOU for any help!

CM Oil pan

Hi there,

It really depends on which bolts.

Remember, the position 2 bolt are only tightened to 106 in lbs, whereas the other position 4 bolts are tightened to 18 ft lbs.

I do prefer to use Loctite 242 on all the fasteners, this way they do NOT loosen up.

Make sure the area is completely clean with some brake cleaner.

Allthebest, c4c5

HI there,

Using a universal jointed 10mm socket and a long extension is how I do it.
