Cool Z51 Swar Bar Links

Had some front end work done this week and discovered that the rubber on the swar bar links had deteriorated, requiring replacement.

My C5 is a 2000, Z51 convertible with 41k miles so I was surprised to see this. The rears also will require replacement.

How common is this among C5s at such low mileage? I did so a forum search and see where others have changed out the links but seems the link failure is premature.

Are your current links the plastic type?

If so, I would switch out all to the metal type GM uesed later on.

I've never heard of either type failing though, so I think it was premature like you said.

Now go play with your tools!

1998 6-speed Coupe. Z06 exhaust, Z06 sway bars, C6 Z06 Shifter, LS6 Intake Manifold, K&N FIPK, Vararam Velocity Stack, stainless steel brake lines, Borla X pipe, Z06 shocks. SAE Dyno Numbers 330 RWHP/340 RWTQ

The oem (non adjustable) links have a rubber boot on them. The rubber is pretty good & I have not seen the rubber go bad without some other factor going on.

They are far enough from the rotor heat, I would think, that they don't melt, like all the other rubber on the calipers & adjacent to the rotor (tie rod ends).

I agree, at those miles, it's quite premature.
