CM Charging 1999 Vetter air conditioner

I'm trying to recharge my 1999 C5 AC using a 12 oz.. can of refrigerant. I can only get the system charge up to approx. 26 PSI after using up 2 cans. What should the PSI be to get a full charge? Is the a/c leak too great to get the correct amount of refrigerant pressure?

Hi there,

This depends on if you were totally empty of R134A.

You can take up to 1.75 lbs of refrigerant.

Your low side pressure is not an accurate determination of how much you need. It can help you, but not totally accurate.

How is the temperature???

Allthebest, c4c5

There is a chart in the serv manual that asks outside temp and humidity, from there it tells you the pressure readings for the low and high side. At home using the local auto store products, you will check from the low side.

Also keep in mind, if the can gets cold, the car can't suck the refrigerant in smoothly enough and it will take a lot longer. Warming the cans in hot water helps that out a lot and might have to be done a few times to get it all out of the can.

See this chart if you don't have...

Thanks for your timely response. The conditioned air is slightly cool but not cold as when I have it done professionally. The refrigerant can does get extremely cold, I'll try placing it in warm water while recharging. I'll let you know how I make out.

Smile Charging 1999 Vet air conditioner

Quite a long while ago I had seen/heard about warming the refrigerant can but my memory failed me. Tried it the other day and now it's blowing cold air. Thanks for you recommendation.
