CM 2006 intermitently kills the battery

I've had this problem for 3 years, I'm located in a rural area. The nearest Corvette dealers is 2 hours away & I have little faith in there ability to track this down. So I'm hoping to narrow the problem & correct myself or at least be able to instruct the dealer what is needed to correct it.

Last fall the problem was active & here are some of the notes I made.

"I took the approach again of removing the bigger relays & fuses just to try & get a clue, no change.

All right now it is time to start pulling fuses, started with door locks, no change, then the CTSY/LAMP......a change!

My cycled down draw had been steady @ .180 A, when I pulled the fuse it cycled down to .120 A. Not a huge change but finally a change. What normally happens is every 2 minutes something wakes up, a current spike to 2.66 A then it begins to cycle down, this time with the fuse removed it cycles down to .120 A then after 2 minutes it cycle down to .01 to .02 A.

Now the interesting part, it does not cycle back up every two minutes, now it takes 10 to 11 minutes before it spikes up then cycles down. The good news is it cycles down in approx. two minutes to the .01 to .02 A draw"

I've read here that there possibly can be a programing problem causing & extra 30 ma draw, my draw appears to be higher than that & it affects the cycling of how the computers wake up & sleep.

Any suggestions as to how I may further narrow this problem down & confirm or deny if it is a programing issue?

HI there,

This all depends on the options that you have.

If you have ONSTAR, your going to see a momentary spike as the module looks to see if it is needed.

The key is to start from square one.

How long does it take to kill the battery??

How does the battery test now? Volts and CCA, ????

I will say first hand is that it is so very critical to update the programming in the ECM TCM BCM and RCDLR.

Then, you take your ammeter draw readings AFTER the vehicle has gone to sleep for 15 mins.

Allthebest, c4c5

"No" Onstar

When the problem occurs the battery dies within 2 weeks.

The Battery has been replaced by GM Delco recommended each year, this is the first year I've not replaced it. I've confirmed it is not a battery problem.

With the fuse removed & it is a sleep the current draw bounces between .01 & .02 Amps or 10 & 20 Milli-amps. The battery will last easily weeks in this configuration.

With fuse in place the draw is never less .120 A or 120 milliamperes. When in this condition the car never really goes to sleep, it will wake every 2 minutes & spike to 2.66 then cycle down to .120 A.

I just had a look @ the Schematic for the cct..... RCDLR is powered thru this fuse.

By chance is there some way I can program the DIC so the passive features are off?

OP~ How many miles do you drive per year?

Also, when you are measuring the amps, is your FOB within close proximity?

Maybe 1 k miles per year & yes the fobs are in close proximity.

I don't remember for sure but I think I did my current draw test & tried moving the fobs out range with no change in the results.
