CM Rear end noise.

I've asked in other forums now it's y'alls turn.

My 01 vert has a noise that changes at different speeds. It's has no change during acceleration or decelleration. It sounds like gears meshing in the diff. After a ride in the trunk trying to zero in on the noise it is the right rear. I've tried the hard right and left turns and the noise doesn't change. I have it in the air now and when I push/pull at 12 & 6 and 9 & 3 I feel no noticable play. Could this be a CV joint (if thats what its called)? Or maybe still the wheel bearing?

And question #2 while in the air, in N as I turn the rear wheels by hand I hear a slight squeal in the diff. Is that normal?

Guys I've read everything I could find on the subject and would like some input before I start replacing parts. Thanks for any help.

My 01 vert had the same noise that you are referring to. I am not saying that my issue is exactly the same as yours but when I was searching, this is the conclusion that worked for my car.

I changed the rear end fluid out and replaced it with the GM LS rear gear fluid. No longer any dry gear noise.

LS fluid p/n 88862624

If you do a search you may find my old post.

Cheers.

HI there,

While there is going to be a certain amount of play in the differential to tire area, the amount would be the key.

If your ONLY trying to get the gear noise to subside, there are questions.

#1, how much mileage on your car??

#2, have you had any repairs on the driveline before ????

#3, do you race or track the car ????

Allthebest, c4c5
