Question Magnetic oil plug ?

I have a 2003 LS1 and it's going to be time to change the oil&filter. The car has 14900 miles on it. Is there any sense in installing a Magnetic oil plug ? Thank You !

Why not? It's a good way to monitor your engine.

I have decided after seeing this company 'Goldbond' magnetic drain plugs to get all of my units refitted with a magnetic plugs since they stock the set for my 2003 corvette. The engine, transmission and the rear differential as well. Seems like a good idea no matter how you look at it. Thank you for your input.

I personally see no reason for them. It's an after the fact product that usually only creates concern for owners that don't really have a problem. Just my opinion though, and if they don't come apart then their is no real down side other than the cost. Good luck either way. :)

On our fleet vehicles at work we stuck magnets on the oil filter cannisters. That's where you want to collect the particles anyway, then just toss it.
Just don't forget to move the magnet to your new filter on the next oil change.

I like them just in case they catch a big piece of metal (whatever that might be). The little metal fuzz that collects is normal.

I see your point LLC5, they even tell you up front that at times your going to find a coating of what looks like a grease on the magnetic drain plug, but it DOES MEAN your engine is dying. All mechanical engine/compressors/ect. or what have you are going to have some sort of wear factor engineered in to them. The LS-1 is designed to be a 200.000 to 300.000 miles engines with proper care and use. But I'd like to try one just for my own well-being mentally.

But I really appreciate your advice. You've never steered me wrong in all the time I've spent on this forum. Thank you !
