Is it possible to change the 4L60 transmission and the differential drain plugs with two new magnetic ones without having to drain all the fluids? I bought a magnetic drain plug for the 2003 LS1 engine in my Corvette, and decided it was a good idea to do them all. Do I make any sense ?

IIRC, there is no need to put magnetic drain plugs in the transmission or differential as they have magnets in the case.

As Bruce said, there are magnets and a lot stronger magnets, in the trans and diff cases. You clean the magnets off if and when you remove the case covers. You can't remove the plugs without some oil loss. If you swap them quickly, you can get by with only a small amount of oil.

I got in the mail the magnetic engine oil drain plug, it came with an aluminum backup washer. I have a stamped rubber washer, any of you techs have a preference using the solid aluminum washer over the stamped rubber or the other way around ? Or does it make any difference? It's a 2003 LS1 and I just don't want to develop a leak, by the way it doesn't leak with the stock plug so maybe I'm just jumpy at using something new ?

As long as the OEM washer fits your new drain plug properly I would use it. If the fit is incorrect, then the aluminum washer should work just fine. Good luck with it.
