The new engine for the C7 is~ 1. V-8 2. Turbocharged 3. OHC 4. 10,000RPM 5. 80.5mm bore 6. >400HP 7. "slightly more than" 3 liters displacement They'll also offer the more traditional OHV powerplants that we've grown to love. GM is doing what Harley did 10 years ago. Trying to move away from the air cooled big twin to the water cooled V-ROD engine. The new engine may be "better" but the traditionalists are bucking the trend and not accepting. GM states, "We're trying to attract the younger buyer."

The engine isn't what holds the Corvette back against the imports. It's the cheap construction materials and ghastly interior. I get in one and I half think I'm in a Cobalt, not Chevy's flagship. Still, even at the height of 80s silliness with an excellent turbo V6 right there for the taking, Chevy didn't move from inches. I don't see the core audience accepting it today either because despite Chevy's statements, Corvette buyers are middle-aged and older.

| Quote: "The engine is likely to be extremely high-revving, perhaps climbing to a near-Formula One-class 10,000 RPMs, suggested one source involved in the project" End quote. Let's hope GM gets a few more competent people involved in the project. The current F1 engine revs to 18,000 rpm (limited by rule). | |||||||||||||||||||||
