CM Wheel studs 08

2008 vert 3LS M6 stock.

What is the minimum tensile strength of GM's wheel studs ?Back about a year or so I had some wheel studs that broke and others we're stretched .The dealer said they we're over torqued which I know for a fact they we're not .

Anyway I now have access to a testing facility and I saved all the wheel studs .It'll be the best way to prove my case .

OP~ Did you try a rockwell scale?(C)
I've never had a problem with wheel studs, but have known many who have. They were all caused by overtorquing. (Sometimes to 150ft.lbs!)

I can't post the all the info but in a nut shell I found the absolute mininmum that QC will let pass .The test results we're that some of the original we're far below minimum standards .The test facility sent the results directly to GM.

I had a bunch of GM studs fail a few years ago. I bought the GM studs that were longer and with nut starters for use on my Firebird that I autocross. I used a press to get the studs in the rotor, applied a little never seize, and torqued to 120 ft. lbs. to help seat them a bit. I went for a ride and retorqued them to 100 lbs... which is when a few felt soft, to the point where 2 snapped.

I did a test with replacement dorman studs and an old rim. I applied a bunch of never seize and went all the way up to 150 lbs. By then you could tell that the rim was getting damaged and the lug nut was a bit deformed in the threads... but the stud looked fine. I wouldn't use that stud again, but did it to prove a point (at least to myself) that there was something wrong with the studs.
