Hi, I've got a 78 pacecar with L48 somewhat stock engine. It has always ran a little on the warm side. Gauge is correct as I have a manual gauge installed as well. I've changed everything on the cooling that I can; 160 degree thermostat, a New Hi-Volume water pump, new aluminum Radiator, 9 pound cap, dual elect.fans w/ standard fan & shroud. Yet, when I come into any town (highway runs @ 190 degree) I will heat up close to 220 degrees. It will cool down to under the 200 range after hi-way travel again. nothing ever changes in the overflow tank. This still bothers me as it seems very warm. I do run A/C here in Iowa. By the way, I just installed a new GM 700-R4 tranny in it and dropped my 70mph speed down 1200 rpm's (love that).

Thanks, I guess I'm a little concerned of hurting the orginal block from heating up. Love the car but always watching the temp. Thanks again. | ||||||||||||||||||||

HI there, It will not hurt the engine whatsoever. These engines can run at 230 all day long. Just remember, adding the AC also increased the temperature of the air flowing through the radiator, which will not cool it down as well. Allthebest, c4c5 |
