Does anyone have a link to a diy front engine cover r&r? I found an independent that will do mine under my gmpp but I want to give the tech all the info I can. He seems capable but (gulp) he did not know about the torque to yield on the balancer bolt. I think he wants to do it from below, dropping the suspension & sub frame. Any helpful hints? Or a link will really be great, I am looking for one now. I have the fsm, but it's not much. Do you do it from top or below? Some of both? He will go online to alldata or some other service & get the step by step. Do you do the oil pan cover also? :)

HI there, The FSM will give him all the information he needs, including special alignment tool part numbers. There are no alignment pins so using the tools to align the cover is critical. And it does get done from the bottom after the rack is removed. Allthebest, c4c5 |

My tech & I think we traced the leak to the lower oil pan cover as there is a strong dye trace around 100% of the gasket, much more bold than any other trace. I believe the leak is caused by crankcase pressure during high rpm, greater than can be relieved by the stock system. I think I could drive the car another 40k miles at "normal" rpm and have no leak. 40k miles 2004 c5z Any suggestions on how to vent crankcase pressure at high rpm? :)

I added a vent to the driver side valve cover & am doing another to the oil filler cap. I took the car to a Vette only independent shop who also builds race motors. We saw it was dry, no active leak, just residue of previous leak. There has been zero leak under several hundred miles of normal driving, only leaks at sustained high rpm events. How do you guys with race motors vent the crankcase? Obviously, getting away from stock setup here. I think a vent setup that I can easily attach for comp events & remove for street would be ideal. :)
