Flickering HID - is it the ballast? the bulb?

My 2006 z06 drivers side low beam has started flickering on an intermittent basis. As long as i have owned it both lights would flicker when first starting up then stay on constantly like a halogen. The passenger side low beam is fine.

I am used to a bulb either being on and ok or out, as in burned out when it goes bad.

Is this flickering something funky with the HID where its about to burn out and flickers before it dies, or is the ballast perhaps gone bad?

It's usually the bulb going out. Have you replaced it recently?

no, both bulbs are original. its an early06; however, not too many miles and very little night driving with the lights. I guess I'll look into replacements. Thanks
