There is a "staple" (not a set-screw) that is inserted in the lower part of the knob, that goes into the metal shaft. The "staple" is on the side of the shift knob that faces the dash.

You must shift the car to a low gear (engine off.....) setting, then try to pull the staple out with a needle nose pliers or pry it out with a small, slotted screwdriver.

I have heard people say the "staple" is easy to get out - and that it is very, very difficult to remove.

Once the "staple" is removed, the knob lifts off of the metal shaft.

Good luck.

It comes out easy. It's getting it back in that will send you home crying to your momma and cursing your dad. I once took an hour and a half trying to get that damn thing back in.

[FONT="Comic Sans MS"]Thank you, sounds like it's another GM "Quicksand" job. My neighbor has a new 2011 Chevy 1500 pickup. Last night he wanted to install syvania High or brighter halogen bulbs. . . Two hours later the grill had to come out and remove a passenger side panel. You would not believe this is something a owner would ever be able to do. Corvettes are the same. If you don't know how to do something on your own, it's off to the dealership or just forget about the headlight bulbs. Crazy ! After that he had a drink, and he doesn't drink more than once or twice a year. [FONT]
