CM Buzzy shifter noise

Stock 40k miles c5z shifter has been aligned about 3 mos ago correctly.

I developed a slight buzzy rattle in the past 2 weeks it's like the knob was loose, but it's NOT the knob.

It shifts FINE.

Are there any shims, bushings, spacers, etc. that tend to just wear out or wear down that would cause this?

I could throw in a c6z shifter, but I'd rather save the $$ if I can quiet this one down.

I have been into many C5 shifters and cannot think of a problem that would be a buzzing noise. I lube and adjust mine annually. Let me know if you need any help doing it.

I would like YOUR procedure. I have done the adjustment annually on mine so I know that pretty well. The only lube I do is where the big heavy duty rubber boot wraps around the shifter shaft. I was getting a metal/rubber squeak there so I shot a little white grease & worked it in & it went away.

Should I pull the whole shifter OFF and inspect? I have only adjusted it & never pulled it off.

What is involved in lifting it off? Anything tricky?

How do you know that it is not some part of the dash rattling?

Could be I suppose, but seems to emanate (sp) from shifter. Maybe I'll recheck the console & trim plate for radio etc.

I take the shifter box assembly off the vehicle and disassemble it, clean and lube the assembly. It's not hard to do.

I would too. I just figured out where a noise that I had was coming from. It was the sun visor on the passenger's side. The visor was rattling inside the clip that holds it in place. I never really looked for the noise and I found it by accident. Of all the things to be rattling. Something that simple.

I will do it Sunday, there is a knob/cap at the bottom of the shaft, can you buy that separate or shim it or tighten it? I am suspecting it has wear. Quite a lot of hard shifts have been executed.

Not forced or blown shifts, but you know, hard shifts.

There has to be some wear in the shifter that is letting a "normal" drive line vibration show itself.

If I replace the whole deal, what are the TWO BEST shifters you would put in (not another c5z shifter).
