Smile AC Shuts Off???

2002 Torch Red Z06. A very nice Car.

Circumstance:

It's hot out so I pull into my GF's driveway and leave the engine running and AC on. I exit the car, shut the door and go inside. When I return to the car the AC is completely turned off. If I leave the door ajar, the AC stays on. Is this normal or ???

Thanks,

My 02 Z does something very similar. If I put on the defroster and shut the door it shuts off. (If I shut the door slowly and push it to latch it stays on) When I turn it back on I can open and shut the door as many time as I want and it stays on. It only does it on the first start of the day. It's been doing that for a few years now. It's very strange and very consistent. Maybe it's a Red 02 ZO6 thing.

This is most likely tied to your memory setting. Here's how you can verify this.

1. After driving the car and parking it, do not set your alarm.

2. Exit the car. Do not lock it in any way.

3. Get back in the car and start it up. Do not touch any of the memory setting buttons or use your fob.

4. Turn the AC on and exit the car. Make sure that you close the door.

If the AC remains on, then it's your memory selection (which is tied to the fob), that is turning the AC off as the memory remembers the last setting attributed to the fob that you are using.

Easy fix: Get in the car and turn the AC on. Get the seat and mirror, music or anything else that you like set where you want it. Then, and this is the most important part, save those settings to the memory number that is on the back of the fob you are using (either a 1 or 2).

Problem solved.
