Woman Smuggled into U.S. in Engine
An illegal immigrant from China was discovered at the U.S. border near Calexico, Calif., hiding inside the engine bay of a 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis, the Bay Area’s NBC11.com reported on their Web site.

Immigration officials became suspicious during a regular border check when the driver of the car, a 27-year-old resident of Mexicali, got nervous during their inspection. Officers reportedly found a piece of wood under the front bumper – and when they removed the grille assembly, they found a Chinese woman.

The woman was treated at a medical facility and is being held in custody as a witness in the case against the man, who is charged with alien smuggling.

The attempt was the second in a week that border control had caught.
