Hi too all the gurus on this forum.I need some advise on issues with my 2006 C6. Sometime back I noticed service fuel tank msg and took it to the dealership.The checked the codes (DTC P2066) and told me that the fuel senders need to be replaced.The issue is with the right fuel sender.I was told this will cost me $1500.There is no issue with fuel reaching the engine nd it drive fine.Only when the gas gauge reaches near quarter tank that the dial drops to zero.So can you guys tell me if I should be paying $1500 to get this fixed or rather just get the right sender fixed only. The second issue is that I need to get the front rotors/pads changed as the car has 60,000 miles on.The dealer mentioned the price as ~$700.Any advise? I live in the bay area so if you guys can recommend any other shop that will fix this for a fair price ,I would be very thankful as the invoice price sounds a little too high for both issues. | ||||||||||||||||||||

Fuel sending unit replacement alternative.. Maybe..and its just a maybe...try this for a few tanks... Run the tank down near empty...then throw in a bottle of techron into the gas tank...then fill up. Do that twice with two fillups...if that doesn't work then I would suggest using a can of BK44 (C4C5 can confirm the name) Sometimes you get lucky and clears up the sulfur on the fuel sending unit and your good to go.. I am guessing your gas gauge is wacky and thats what your asking about.. I'd definitely do this suggestion before replacing a fuel sending unit. Its only a couple of buck and just a little more time to see if it clears up. Usually try and use Tier one gasoline such as chevron or Shell..if they are in your area...Better cleaning agents in those tier one brand gas and well worth the extra money at the pump because it keeps the sulfur level low so you don't have to replace the sending units.. As far as the cost of the brake job? I'd have to suggest looking at the individual brake part cost..Rotors and pads...and then the calculation of the labor time multiplied by the usual 110 dollar labor rate..(last time I checked) Probably a good idea to include flushing the brake fluid in the 5 year period...as it keeps the ABS modules safe etc.. Add that cost in too.. I think the 5 year mark is also recommended for flushing the radiator coolant...so that might be something to consider at this time as well. Trust me on the fuel sending unit solution..it worked for me with my c5 and saved me a bundle... Techron first then BK44 if the techron doesn't do the trick.. Just goes in the tank when its near empty...fill up and drive..Worth a shot .. Good luck and I am sure an experienced tech will chime in and give you some good insight .. JB | ||||||||||||||||||||

Thanks JBsZ06 for the advise.I did try putting in two bottles of techron but that didn't help.I will try BK44.Does walmart carry this or any good place/brand you recommend? On the brake rotors/pads ,I got the rear one replaced just not the front ones so will make sure on the flushing of the brake fluid.Also should I get the transmission fluid flushed as well.It is manual trans..On the coolant I got it changed when I got the servicing done at 55,000 miles.. | ||||||||||||||||||||

HI there, Neither 44k or Techron will help this. However, they should check to see if you need the updated calibration for the fuel system per GM TSB. The key is WHEN your vehicle was manufactured, because I have seen a few 2006 get through and need the calibration update. TSB was issued Nov, 2005, so if you were produced PRIOR to that date, you could just need a reprogramming. I would start there. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Thanks MrRickZ06 and C4C5specialist. @C4C5specialist-I purchase this car almost brand new (~500 miles) in Sept 2006 so am not exactly sure on the manuf date.Is there a way for me to find out when the car was manufactured.Also the dealer insists that it is the fuel sender than needs to be replaced.
