New to this site but I like what I see and read. My oil psi gauge would go from 0-130 when I start the car and stay at 130. After reading other people's problems regarding the same thing, everyone said that it was the sending unit. Well today I was driving and the psi guage started to go from 0 to 130 and back to 0 and back to 130. I pushed the gauge button and it would read xxx and then climb up to 130 and then back down. I also noticed that my panel lights where flickering just a little. Also got a lot of service engine soon readings and an oil pressure idiot light. Made it home and did the key to start and with out turning the engine over and the needle went from 0-130 like one of the blogs said. Just wondering what would cause the oil gauge to go from 0-130 and back while driving. Is this a gauge or sender unit problem or something more expensive and bigger. 1999 C5 Conv. 65,000 miles. Thanks

It's good to see that you are reading the threads. With that said, I'm surprised that you didn't do the number one thing that you shoul do when experiencing problems: Pull the codes. If I were a betting man, I would say that you are suffering from nothing more than a weak or poorly connected battery. Your sending unit is bad too. .

Everything you need to know about pulling the codes, including clearing the illuminated malfunction indicator lamp can be . Also, the torque settings on your battery cables is very important. I don't know what year car you have but my service manual dictates that on my 2001, the positive cable be torqued to 11 foot pounds and the negative cable be torqued to 12 foot ponds. Paul talks about the battery torque settings being the issues for a lot of issues with this car.
