CM 03 Z06 Head Gaskets

03 Z06 19,000 miles
A recent 2 hour roadtrip back from a weekend track event has resulted in a blown head gasket. After shutdown, leaking and puddeling was found from the bottom of the left head. The battery was disconnected to prevent cranking.

The intention is to reinstall the original heads "if" found to be ok....or with minor resurfacing. Will be tearing this down very soon to replace gaskets, bolts, plugs and fluids. Looking for recommendations on replacement gaskets for this stock LS6 engine with Hurricane CAI and BB Fusion exhaust, factory cats and H pipe. Any additional recommendations are also welcomed.....

Obviously the OEM are not keeping up with my driving habits.

Hi there,

I would be more interested as to WHY they failed.

OEM will hold up very well, given correct installation, headbolts being replaced and proper operational temperatures.

The leak location, either front or rear of block, upper or lower sealing surface and inspection of the gasket itself would tell me if there is something amiss.

I have track cars at Limerock with never a headgasket issue after over 70,000 miles, so I would be investigating this one once it is torn down.

Correct surface preparation would be critical to how it all turns out with new headbolts, and installation per GM guidelines.

Allthebest, c4c5
