CM Scratched my Vette!!!!

Pulling out of the garage my mirror scraped the door, any idea of what the best way to repair besides bring it to bodyshop? Are the kits sold through Mid America really work?

Sorry to hear this!

Not sure what the kits are, but I know from all the detailing and body work I've done in the past, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's going to need paint and filler and will not buff out.

So if the kit is a scratch remover kit and you can feel the scratch, the kit wont work.

If it can be felt, but is not down to the fiberglass or plastic since its a mirror in this case, you may be able to take a lot of it out by wet sanding and then buffing. But if you've never done this and dont have the materials, it may not be an option for you. A body shop can though but then again they wil try to get you to paint it too at that point.

Now go play with your tools!

fyi....maybe not in your case, but sometimes scrapes look bad but end up just being some paint transfer from the garage to the car. Meguiar's ScratchX is good at removing the paint transfer.

I agree with ToolGuy....if you can feel it with your fingernail, then if may need to be sanded and touched up. I've bought a kit years ago that I've used many times with great success. I think I bought from MidAmerica Motorworks or Ecklers for about $17 back then. I also keep a red Sharpie in my torch red coupe for those pesky little chips on the rocker panels, for a quick fix.

Good luck

Would it be cost prohibitive to just replace the mirror assembly?

It would still have to be painted.
