CM oil gauge

while driving in warm weather my oil pressure gauge will go from 0 to 130 and swing back and forth between these numbers. Also the check gauge light comes on and my oil pressure is displayed under the speedo and indicates pressures from xxx to 130 following the swing of the gauge. Could this be just the sending unit, the gauge itself or is the car ready to blow up. This seems to happen when the weather gets really warm. Today it was cool out and it stayed at 130 psi for an 8 mile trip to town. From your blogs if it stays at 130 and goes to 0 when you shut off it is the sending unit. Any help would be appreciated. Especially the will it blow the engine part.1999 C5 with about 65,000 miles on it

Your problem has all the symptoms of the oil sending unit gone bad. The only way to know for sure is to check it with an auxiliary oil pressure gauge. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think it is the sending unit but will have it checked with aux oil pres gauge at the shop.
Thank you!

All you have to do is turn the key on (don't start the engine), and look at the gauge. If it shows engine pressure, then you know the sender is bad. A engine that is not running cannot make oil pressure.
Here's a thread
I did on replacing/relocating it.

Not trying to steal the thread or anything, but Junkman you seem to have a lot of "how to write ups". I just have to know: did you some how buy a lemon? :)

It seems like the articles I have seen are based on your own vehicle, but maybe you are you using other peoples vehicles for those "how to's"? If I had that many problems with my own vehicle I would have sold it long ago. No flame or offense intended, and your articles are very good.

No offense taken!

I do have a lot of write-ups, but most of them are very common C5 issues. I also have 131,000 miles on my car and if the weather is cooperating, that car is getting driven!

The EOP sensor is a very common. So is the leaky differential (driver's side), the flaky turn signals (hazard switch), the bulbs burning out in the radio and HVAC, the dim HVAC display, the leaky weatherstripping, the clogging udders, the sticking window and lock controls, the column lock (which is actually a battery issue), the over-heating issues, and the seat wearing issues just to name a few. When you look at the cost of repairing those items yourself compared to buying another car, you quickly realize that fixing the problems is a lot more cost effective. Since everyone with a C5 doesn't post on message boards, you really don't know how common these issues are. However, if you read across enough forums daily as I do and get contacted by people from all over the globe as I also do, you will quickly realize that these issues affect a lot of C5 owners.

For me, they definitely don't warrant getting rid of the car when you look at the bang you get for the buck, and the fact that my bang is all paid off. :)

No doubt, bang for the buck and paid off excellent reasons to keep it.
