CM Broken Spring (clutch & brake pedals)

2004 Z06 - I just found a piece of broken spiral spring on my floor mat. It appears to be from a spiral spring that spans the brake and clutch pedals. Clutch and brake functions seem normal. What is the function of this spring? Safety Issue?

Thanks as always for your responses !

I don't think there is a spring that connects clutch to brake.

There is a spring that helps manage the clutch pedal action.

If this is the spring & it broke, I would replace it with the part from a dealer (if you can buy it separate from the pedal assembly) or if they want you to buy a whole assembly then source a like spring from a salvage Vette or anywhere they have like springs. It's just a common spring so far as I can tell.

If it broke there may be the other half still hanging under there, if it just slipped off then you should be able to reattach it.

Its probably is the clutch pedal return spring. My car was operating with only half of it at one time, I had no idea it broke and must have before I got the car.
You can buy just it from GM and install. It can be tricky and if I remember correctly, I had to install one side and then push in the pedal to hook the other side.

See this thread and find the GM part number.

Thanks, that was it, clutch return spring, part # 10376347, $15 out the door. Five min. install once you determine the configuration and depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to atttach the center post of spring.
