CM Fuel injection cleaning - anyone heard of this

I met a gentleman with a C5 that just took to dealer for fuel system service. He said it made a world of difference to the cars performance. Problem is, he had no idea what the service was called but said they hooked up some kind of bag in the engine area that was full of fluid - kinda like a blood bag.

Anyone know what the dealer does for a fuel system service - does the above sound familiar. What's this service called, how much and is it worth doing.

He said it was a $50 service from the dealer.

Thanks in advance

There are commerical fuel injector cleaning kits that hook-up to the schrader valve on the fuel rail and the liquid cleaner is added to clean the injectors.

Many dealers use an after-market system that is not issued or approved by GM. It is a high mark-up item with a lot of profit.

I have always had good luck using GM fuel injector cleaner PLUS or Techron fuel injector cleaner PLUS, when added to the fuel tank.

Good luck.

BG 44K additive is highly thought of. I believe they make the system referred to in the last email.

I add it to my gas a couple of times a year.

I also only use top tier gas brands. See toptiergas.com for a list of retailers who meet the standard.

Cheers,

Yes there are both tyopes of cleaners. The add to the tank kind and then the external kind like your friend mentions. Typically the fuel pump is disabled and then the car runs off the fluid in the bottle or bag in this case. Once the fluid runs out the car dies and its done, unless it needs it again.

Its really up to you what to try, I use the add to the tank type because I know my injectors are not clogged up now but I also did the external method once too just to try.

Now go play with your tools!
