CM Oil pressure switch etc

Have to replace my oil pressure switch or sending unit. Mechanic said it was the one with the 3 plug in. I saw some blogs on oem sending units and a lot of people said they had to replace it in six months. What would be the best sending unit to get. I think someone mentioned that the part from standard parts was the one to get. They want $250.00 to change this and said that they have to take the manifold off. Is this correct. Curious in Southern Illinois. My care is a 99 conv. with about 66,000 miles on it.

I have read that after market switches are a little bit better then OEM and they seem to hold up a lot better. I can't tell you one way or the other as I still have the OEM switch in my car and it seems to be holding it's own.
As far as replacing it once it goes bad?
Again, the proper way is to remove the intake manifold but it can be done, with a little bit of effort, with the intake in place. Some guys have even gone as far as using a hole saw to bore a hole thru the cowl directly above the pressure switch to make it easier to remove.

Here is YouTube link on how to change it without removing the intake:

If I'm not mistaken, the brass senders are the preferred ones.

Brass are what the OEM were made of. The GM replacements were Aluminum. I replaced mine when it failed, only to have the new one go bad within two weeks. My second new one was a PS308 AND I relocated it to the fuel rail using copper tubing. My suspicion is that the extreme heat back there and the aluminum don't get along, therefore the heat ruins the seal between the oil pressure and the sensor's own electronics. No issues since relocating it and no, I refuse to cut holes through the cowling.
