Hello all, I just joined CM. I have a 92 LT1 Corvette. I don't know where to begin. 2 1/2 years ago I had a problem with the engine running really rough and backfiring. I took it to a mechanic he said the plugs are probably fouled because I never use the car. (weekend driver) If I wasn't working the weekend. Anyway no mileage to speak of. So he changed the plugs. Still had the same problem and it got 90% worse. I couldn't drive around the block. I just changed the Fuel Injectors to Bosch III (FIC) in June. Seemed to run a smoother for a while but it still didn't feel 100%. I took it out this past weekend and it ran like ......! Hesitating, Sputerring ,and even a backfire. This happens when I get on it. Any suggestions I'm so bummed,

What is the mileage? Any (engine) modifications? How old is the gas in the tank? :)

Hi there, Well, I would start by checking the ignition coil wire to the Optispark. Moisture can creat conditions within the electrical that are not easily seen without disassembly. After that, checking the output of the distributor system by spraying the ignition wires with a salt water solution will also tell you if any electricity is leaking out of the wires and the spark plugs. ITs not an easy job on the LT1. Alot has to be removed to do this job. I would do the test above and let us know how you made out. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Never go to this person again and possibly ask for your money back. Plugs don't go bad from sittting, they go bad from use. This tech sucks! ![]() I'm going to second checking the plug wires. Plug wires can go bad from age and the same things that deplete the o-zone, attack plug wires too. Especially since yours are 19 years old and you are not getting any codes. Usually heat and use kill wires, but in your case yours are 19 years old.

| I always use geniune GM Delco brand. Go to Rockauto.com and price them before you buy locally, geniune GM Delco brand is usualy there too. It's worth waiting and paying the shipping many times. I've been getting most of my parts here because the local stores carrry their own brands around me and some are junk. Make sure to do the tests Paul suggest though before if you have not already. We don't want you to spend more money and have it not fix the issue. The spray test should be easy to do. If the wires are really bad, in the total darkness you should also see electrical arcing coming from the wires. Here's a vid on using the spray method. Welcome to the site BTW! ![]() We are a no nonsense site compared to others that just want to crack jokes and give stupid, off the cuff answers. | ||||||||||||||||||||
