CM Sooty Exhaust Tips

My b-i-l's 2010 Z06 has a substantial amount of black soot all over the tailpipe tips. He'll clean it and go for a drive and it's there again. I've never seen another car with this condition. It has about 8500 miles and he is not easy on it. Something wrong here?

Normal, stock tune is on the rich side. Mother's metal polish & a rag will fix em.

The stock tune is only "rich" @ WFO throttle position, otherwise it's lean (to pass EPA regs.)

OP~ Does the "soot" appear to be burned oil? Imagine what your cats must look like. I would think oil would quickly poisen the catalyst.

You don't suppose it's oil getting past the valve guides? (After all, you say your B-i-l is "not easy on it.")

EDIT~ If your B-I-L thinks the tail pipes are dirty, have him look at his wheels for brake dust!

I would say it's not burned oil. Next time I see him I'll have a closer look to make sure it's not oily.
