CM Need 1 new rear tire...must I buy 2?

It appears I've sorted out the situation with my accident, and I'm going to buy the car back and have it fixed by a guy in OH whose references gave him very high marks. I posted some pics in late August when I hit the light pole.

I was hoping to save the tire, but the inside sidewall is cut, so I need a new one. What is the determination as to whether you can get away with 1 tire or if you need both new? These tires are exclusively for track/autocross use if that matters, and they are Nitto NT05's.

I think as a rule of thumb if your at 1/2 or less of the new tread depth then you should do two tires. For track use I would definately do both for optimum handling.

Wink Tires ?

Since I bought my 2003 corvette I've had to replace the 1. right front: Fault in manufacturing - $500.00 Ran over a metal strip with left rear: $600.00 3 had a minor accident and needed new right rear tire $600.00 so that left me with only the right front as original tire. Got disgusted with the hard ride and noisy operation, went out and to Tire-rack and bought a full set of Michelin pilot sports PS/2 ZP replacements. I put the other four good-years up for sale and someone bought them in 2 hours.

I suggest you do like wise. The Original Good-years are nothing but trouble. Best money I ever spent on my 2003 corvette was getting rid of those tires.

I have a '04 C5 Z06, bought it used, put full set of PS2 on--18"s f/r, it has Z16 wheels--right after I bought it; best money I've spent. I'm a moderate driver--the ride and quiet were worth every $. Ride quality/long life is Michelin's game and I know I'm paying some for the name, but hey, Michelin's name @ all four corners ain't bad.
