My battery has finally expired in the '98 conv. I purchased new. Can you please let me know a current replacement battery? I'm worried about not having enough power in the new battery and winding up with the steering column lock I've heard of but never experienced. Also is there anything a novice like me should know about not causing any damage or memory loss when I change the battery?

Am I reading that correctly? You have the original battery in a 98? If so that has to be a record for battery life, especially on a c5 or any corvette. I went with c4c5 specialist's recomendation recently when i replaced my 5 year exide with the AC Delco professional 78 series. great battery and the best warranty out there. 50 months replacement. I followed C4C5 advice and went with stock version because I knew it would be right and I would also get original fitment, important to me. Additionall, be sure to torque clamps to 11 lb.ft. Personally, I believe this may be the most critical component of the install. My replacement has been operative for over a year, my car is a garage queen, '04 C5 Z06 but driven 3-4 times weekly dependent on weather. No issues, smooth replacement and no electrical issues of any kind. Found the battery, got my tools ready, pulled old battery, did minor cleaning on tray, only dust, dropped in new one, torques clamps to spec and lit the engine for a drive---it was just that easy, fun and without issue. I love these cars, Ken

The replacement battery needs to have a minimum 500 CCA rating with a reserve capacity rating of 120. Don't pay any attention to worthless pro rated warranties, and buy a battery with the longest "free replacement warranty" that meets your needs. Good luck with it.

Just wondering about procedure for replacing the battery. I have read that you remove the negative cable first, then the positive when taking the battery out and putting on the positive cable first then the negative when installing the new battery. Most repair procedures always tell you to remove the negative cable before doing any work on the car.

The procedure you described is the correct and safest way to install and remove battery cables. It's a safety thing to do it as you described, the battery itself (or the vehicle electronics for that matter) could care less which one is removed or installed first as long as no short occurs. If you remove the positive cable first, then you could potentially short to ground when removing the cable. Going to ground on the negative cable while removing (or installing) the cable obviously does no damage as all vehicles (since the 1950's I believe) are wired negative ground.
