Question 1964>1966 vette tranny

just wondering if it would be better going with an auto vs manual tansmission in one of the mid year 60 vettes at this time. I know there would be a difference in pick up but past that stage in my life.just looking for a decent vette as a daily driver but would need one with a/c.Thanks

Personally I am a manual transmission person and would immediately chose the 4 speed over the auto, but that's just me. In the mid year vette's I believe that the only OEM auto transmission was a two speed powerglide which is an excellent transmission, but the two speeds are limiting. I had a powerglide in a '68 camaro that I used to own and never had any issues in 10+ years, but I have to admit that I was always wanting a four speed. An aftermarket 5 or 6 speed conversion, which are really popular right now, would be even better. If it were me I would get the manual gearbox because I think they are more fun to drive than an automatic, plus I just plain enjoy shifting the gears myself. Also, with a manual transmission you would have the option of upgrading to a 5 or 6 speed manual in the future which would help powertrain wear and tear, with the added benefit of better fuel mileage. Good luck with your choice of transmissions.

HI there,
I can tell you I have installed a 4L60 or 700R4 in a 1964 Convertible with little problem.

OEM installed a TH350 3 speed automatic and TH400 3 speed automatic in those years.

I had to slightly modify the crossmember for the transmission and then have the driveshaft shortened and balanced.

Other than that, I put it together with minimal problems.

Allthebest, c4c5
