CM Dead battery

This AM my battery was dead in my 2003. I searched the site and found that I should have an AC Delco Professional 78 6yr. Called the local dealer and they said I should have a 75 6yr. Car currently has a diehard which was in it when I purchased the car a 1 1/2 years ago. Don't want the column lock problem. Is the 75 6yr ok? CCA is 650.

Any quality battery with a reserve capacity (RC) of 120, and a minimum CCA of at least 500, will do fine in a C5.

The issue I am having is that the AC Delco 75 series 6 yr has 95 RC not the recommended 120. The 78 series is available with the 120 RC but it is larger in size than the 75 and the dealer indicated it would not fit. Does anyone know if the 78 fits in a 2003? Thanks for all the help!

My '98 has a 78 series battery in it and I would find it hard to believe that the battery tray was changed in '03 but I guess that it could be possible. I would ask the dealer if the battery trays were changed in '03, possibly call the parts department and see if there is a different part number for a '98 C5 and an '03 C5 battery tray and holder. AC Delco makes a 7 year 75 series battery (75-7YR), maybe it has a higher RC rating also. I would want a battery with the closest RC rating to 120 that I could find.

I'd get a tape measure and check the Diehard (L W H). Then, try to find one that size. (Actually, I'd go to CostCo and buy a Kirkland for $65 and get the biggest, meanest battery that will fit.)

One of my 2 mottos:

1. There's no such thing as "too much" battery (providing it has 6 cells.)

The other one has to do with headlights...

I believe the battery size was the same for 97-2003, then changed in 2004.....but double check yourself like Norty said!

I bought my '99 new in March'99 and it's battery didn't last a year. The present battery I have had in the car since '05.
