Exclamation Drive Belt Tensioner Pulley Arm.....

I am changing all of the pulleys on the 2000. I have heard that one should not be able to move the drive belt tensioner arm AT ALL by hand. Well, it has about two inches of travel total in it and I can move it about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch by hand.

Does this mean that it needs to be replaced? again, it does not move - by hand - all of the way to the drive side of the apparatus, but I can move it about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. What do you fellas think?\

THANKS!

CM Update...

On second thought, I can get it to move about 75% of the way towards the driver's side when I use a lot of force. Does this thing need to be replaced?

By hand I am assuming that you mean you are not using a 15mm wrench or socket and ratchet. You may be able to slightly move the pulley with just your hand, but you won't be able to move it any significant amount of distance with out a wrench or socket. If I am reading your post correctly, it does sound like your tensioner is weak. Good luck with it.

Yes, Sir - I understand that I should use the wrench to release the tension on the arm, but /i noticed that if I put some elbow grease into it, I can move the tensioner just about all of the way to the driver's side of the unit - about 75% of the way. I am old school country strong :), so I can put a lot into it, but apparently it isn't suppose to move so far if I read your assessment correctly? I will buy a Gates Tensioner if that's the case. Thank you and any further input from yourself or anyone else is appreciated and welcomed.

THANKS!
