Independent tech (Corvette only shop) did these & it's still leaking. He is going to have to do it over. I would like to give him a tsb, if there is one, so the job goes right. GMPP paid, but they are not going to pay twice. It really frosts me that these oil leaks happen, in the first place, and they are so damned difficult to repair. Any specific tips would be welcome, not find another tech bs. Thanks. This is a do over. Big waste of time/money for everyone. 2004 z06 45k miles. :(

Hi there, DID THEY HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS ??? To align the front cover to the crankshaft????? YOU MUST, under every circumstance, use the correct tools as there is NO alignment pins. I know you have the FSM, but the tools are MORE critical. Allthebest, c4c5 |

He has a die to insert the main seal but nothing for the cover. I have a procedure that makes sense to me. You put the cover on, finger tight, then insert the old bolt & tighten on the damper. This allows the damper to center the cover/seal/everything for a good fit. Then tighten the cover. Then the new final bolt. Some say this is a better centering of the main seal , than using the gm tool. In all fairness many dealers do not have all these special tools for Corvette, unless they are high volume Vette dealers. My guy is not going to go out & buy this tool for my job. He has been doing it for years without. I guess he just flubbed up on this one. Thanks, as always, for the help. PS the mail seal is dry, it's leaking where the two cover edges meet, he used a sealer as called for.

HI there, Well, actually, the Gen 3 small block tools were OEM ESSENTIAL tools delivered to EVERY Chevrolet dealership. As for the rest, I guess that could work, but the tool aligns the cover to the crankshaft, not the seal as rubber from the seal can distort. Another question, was the torque sequence used, because the FRONT cover is installed FIRST, then the oil pan installed. Allthebest,c4c5 |

The torque sequence on both covers is a criss cross like a head, right? middle out to the ends? Just on the phone with tech & he did the top oil pan gasket over. Drove it & will drive it again tonight, I'll get it tomorrow. He sees no leaks. Sigh. Thanks for your help.

Picked up car, new upper oil pan gasket & reseal, street tested & romped it a few times (tech) & so far it's dry. I safety wired the damper bolt. Will see, thanks.
