I have a 1993 LT1 6 speed and while driving it lately the clutch pedal suddenly would only depress about half way to the floor and would not disengage the clutch. The clutch pedal is very hard around the half way point and won't depress any further. The clutch worked properly up until that point. Recently I added a small amount of fluid to the clutch master cylinder taking it from the add mark to the full mark. I checked the clutch master cylinder and the fluid level is at the add mark now so it lost the amount of fluid from the full mark to the add mark in only a few days.

HI there, Take a look at the drivers side of the car, under the center of the transmission where the engine meets the bellhousing. My guess is that either the slave cylinder or the master cylinder is leaking fluid. Allthebest, c4c5 |

There is still fluid up to the add mark in the clutch master cylinder although there must be a leak. What would cause the clutch pedal to only depress half way and stop with the clutch not disengaging? Could this be due to the clutch slave or master cylinder being faulty? All it would take to duplicate these symptoms, would be a leaking internal seal. I would put my money on the slave cylinder. It sounds like the master cylinder is still functioning, being the master is still capable of creating hydraulic pressure.

HI there, Does it feel like you are hitting something solid when you push the clutch pedal down and you stop 1/2 way??? Is there are floor mat under the pedal or anything else??? Once your pressure stops, does the pedal drop at a slow rate???? Allthebest, c4c5 |

Yes, the clutch feels like it is hitting something solid around the half way point, nothing is under the pedal stopping it like a floor mat and the pedal does not drop at a slow rate. It remains around the half way point. Thanks

HI there, I would now be looking at the shaft that the slave cylinder slides on. My guess is that it is binding somewhere there and creating the condition. A quick way to determine this is to have someone push down on the pedal, while you open the bleeder screw at the clutch slave cylinder. If your pedal goes to the floor when you open it up, you are looking at something at the throwout bearing binding, creating your condition. Allthebest, c4c5 |

Its getting old - check the opertation per the above post. It may be time for new clutch (only way I found to get a new throwout bearing for the ZF black tag trans). Also you may need a replacement master and slave clutch hydralics (sp)
