Exclamation "Door Ajar" Message/Alarm Woes!!!

Good Evening, folks. So, I approach the car in a lot the other day and upon hitting the unlock button on the FOB, the car chirps loudly once. I'm thinking - "WTH?" Anyway, I gave the car the once around, searched inside, and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

Upon making it home, the car continuously went into panic mode as it sat in the driveway. The alarm just kept going crazy. At one point, the remote seemed to not work at all.

I resynchronized the transmitter and sure enough the alarm eventually sounded off again seemingly without reason. Upon getting inside, I noticed the "Door Ajar" message on the DIC.

I found that it was my passenger side door. Upon opening and closing the door, it did not sound - or feel right - so, I sprayed some WD40 on the latch and that fixed the problem at that point.

I washed the car the following day, and upon getting the car home and in storage, the alarm sounded off seemingly without reason again hours later. Sure enough, the "Door Ajar" message was on the DIC again.

Question: What is the problem with the "Door Ajar" business on the passenger side? I know the door is closed and is secured nice and tight...believe me, it is shut. I think this may be what causes the alarm to sound once when I hit the unlock button to disarm the car after it has been sitting. I also believe that this is also what is causing the alarm to sound off into panic mode at all times of day and night (this is EXTREMELY annoying to me and probably to the neighbors as well).

What gives? How do I go about fixing this "Door Ajar" issue? Are there any high end alarm systems that are compatible and better than what GM put on the car from BG?

Thanks in advance...look forward to any and all suggestions, folks. Thanks.

You don't mention anything about what model/year you have, so in general terms I would be looking at fixing/replacing the sensor on the pass side for open/closed door.

I have had an issue like you describe with another car and it turned out to be the door lock switch that is part of the door lock.

As froggy47 suggests i would have the door sensor tested.
Do the interior lights come on?
With the window down and the door closed grab the door from the top and try to shake it in and out while looking at the interior lights.

All is well here; it passed this test...No play in the door once it is shut. At one point as I was driving, however, I did get the "Door Ajar" message on the DIC. I stopped, opened and shut the door, and went about my way. No more woes until I reached home and parked the car. Perhaps, it is something with this sensor.

My fault...I have a 2000 Coupe. I suppose I need to call the parts house and price one of these sensors as I have a hunch that may be what it is. Wonder how much they are going demand for this sensor...Darn sure am tired of the issues with the alarm!!! I guess I'll take it and have it tested and see what the charge.

Thanks Froggy and Z. Lemme know if you ave any other thoughts on the matter...as usual. Thanks, guys.

HI there,

Its usually the latch assembly itself, as the switch is not available separately.

Usually about $120 the last time I checked.

Thank you for the information. So, in your opinion, is this a reasonable DIY job for somewhat of a novice (myself)?

I drive a 2000 Coupe.
