I had a new clutch installed on my C5 corvette and the top bolts for the rear sway bar brackets were stripped. Can a heli coil be installed for the top bolts to tighten? Is there enough metal to drill and tap for the heli coil?

I like time serts better than heli coils as they are much stronger, but you will need to find someone with the correct tools to do them properly,or buy the kit yourself but it is NOT a cheap kit. I would think that there should be enough metal to properly install a time sert, but if not then a nut sert could probably be used. If you don't do your own work or these procedures will be a one time thing for you, then I would look for a shop that has both time sert and nut sert installation capabilities (and a shop that has has done a LOT of both types of installations as there are certain techniques to doing either procedure properly) and let them decide which is best. Good luck with it. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Hi there, Agreed, TIMESERT is a great tool. Any GM dealership should have them in the correct size. I have installed them on subframes and have not had a problem after. Remember the torque wrench upon reassembly. Allthebest,c4c5 |
