CM 2003 cts

I got no response in other vechicles. Can anyone help.

3.2 engine
5 speed standard shift
tac connector changed
changed front swaybar kit

When driving on highway I get stability sys engaged on dic. Kicks cruise control off. A real nuisance. Can anyone tell me where to look to find the cause? It does do it without the cruise on also. You feel a little throttle serge

Sorry Ken, I personally did not see this post...

With both CTS and STS the steering wheel position sensor notoriously goes bad. When it does, you can get unwanted stabilty messages and traction control can kick in like what's happening and what happened to me.

My STS had this happen and then it happened more and more, I posted here too. I changed out the steering wheel postion sensor and it was gone.

That's my guess, I searched the net and the site RedDwarf posted for info about it.

It's not a cheap fix from the dealer because the entire column needs to be removed.

I did it myself and saved big bucks, bought the sensor off ebay new too and saved.

NOTE: In my research I found this sensor goes bad on many GM cars, including C5 Vettes!

Now go play with your tools!

I see your other post now and yes, you won't get codes with this issue.

http://corvettemechanic.com/forum/54...sts-issue.html

You will find on the cadillacforum, some owners had wheel speed sensors got bad and a few had to replace the YAW sensor, but the majority were all SPWS.

You can check the wheel speed sensor connections at each wheel. Unplug them and inspect, a replacement harness is made if one is bad. Someone using a tech II scan tool or equivalent can also monitor each wheel speed sensor to make sure all are reading. If not, than you know what one to replace. I believe the YAW can be checked too using the Tech II and the Tech II can also monitor the SWPS readings.

Now go play with your tools!

Oh I forgot too Ken, I don't know an 03 CTS but I assume you can turn off the Stability Control. On MY STS, you hold the Traction Control button down and it eventually turns off ESC.

Try turing yours off and see if the condition comes back. If not, then you are getting closer to the issue and a bad SWPS, or the SWPS in general, plays a role in ESC. Naturally if the cars wheel is turned going into a skid for example, the SWPS senses this and kicks in ESC.

Now go play with your tools!

Yep works on CTS too. Wish I knew this a month ago. Drove me crazy on the highway until I gave up and shut the cruise off. Haven't tried it on the highway yet but will soon. Thanks again.
