HI jbsz06,
Is this preventive maintenance? Is it a loss of cooling system pressure? Is your engine overheating? If so what temp. did it reach? Or do you have dtcs: p0117,p0118 or p0125 set? Is this car raced on or off the track a lot? Just trying to help.robsc5vette

Smile Engine Temp. Coolant Sensor

HI jbsz06,
Usually when the sensor goes bad it tricks the pcm into thinking that the coolant is -35f or colder. Then the maf sensor says: hey we have a cold start condition.Which results in excess fuel delivered to the combustion chamber. Then a flooded engine. If it starts will run like crap, but you know that.
Check this thread. It may have a simple solution or a starting point for you.I hope this helps you.http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61786

have a safe 4th lol

Cannot speak for our Vettes but on other cars I have changed out due to mileage and not an issue, there was not really much to clean. I wiped off the old and did not really see a change in the sensor. Not sure how to clean either but maybe a wire wheel or fine sand paper? I dunno...

JB you do not want to just replace it? That way you know it is new and clean.

Do you not want to replace due to the new one may not last as long as the original?

Now go play with your tools!
