CM 1982 restart problem

My 1982 vette will not restart if I shut it off when the engine is hot. The engine will turn over; however it appears that no fuel is spraying out of the injectors. If I wait approximately 5 minutes the car will start right up. Any suggestions?

Check the fuel pressure first. If it does not hold pressure, it will be hard to start hot. Check the injectors for power and ground while starting. A test light should flash when substituted for one of the injectors. Check for an ignition spark to the plugs. Do the basics first.

Thanks C.E. I'll check the fuel pressure and Injectors. I checked the spark and it's good. The injectors are definitely not spraying during this 5 min. period.

The older fuel pumps tend to stop working after running for extended periods of time. Mine did this a long way from home one day, after a nice drive. After a $260.00 tow home, it started right up.

The pump will run for about 2 seconds when you turn the ignition on. It will make a Bzzzzz, click sound as the pump turns on, pressure come up, and then turn off when pressure is acheived. If it doesn't make that sound, then the pump is stalled.
It's not too hard to replace the pump through the filler neck. Replace it with a 1985 pump instead of the 1982 pump, because it has a higher capacity and connects just the same.
Remove the gas filler cap cover, then unscrew the screws on the rubber boot around the filler neck. Then you will see how the filler neck goes into the tank.
Then remove the fuel lines and unclip the electrical connector at the filler neck. And unbolt the filler neck from the tank. The whole filler neck will come out of the tank, and the pump is on the end of it.
