CM 100K maintenance

I just purchased my second corvette (1st is a 69 vert); an automatic 97 coupe with 106K miles. Despite the high mileage it is in great shape and runs smooth and strong. However, was wondering that type of preventive maintenace should I do to it? Changed the oil this past weekend with the high mileage Mobile 1 and Mobile 1 oil filter. Also changed air filter, PVC valve, and swapped out the factory air filter cover for a Z06 model which has the hole cut out in the front (just for the hell of it). Anyway, what other fluids should I change/things should I do to keep it running. It's my "drive to work" car and I'm hoping to get a lot more years out of it. Anyone else got experience with a high-milage C5?

HI there,
It would be suggested to change the transmission filter and fluid with Dexron 6 ATF.
Split the transmission filter open so you can see if your transmission is in good health.
Brake fluid every 2 yrs/ 24000 miles.
Bottle of 20 oz Techron to the fuel tank.
Coolant, depending on electrolysis testing and refractometer testing also.
Allthebest, c4c5

Welcome to the site!

Do not forget the plugs, wires and fuel filter...

For a high mileage C5, talk to dgrant3830!

He has the highest mileage C5 I know of and here is part of a post of his:

"Actually the car just turned over 290K now. The largest problem that I had with the car was the MM6 tranny. On the third major failure, I gave up and forked over the $ for a new one. Lots of small things of course as nothing lasts forever. The only time the engine was apart was now 2.5 years ago for a bad lifter(s). I had the valve guides replaced and I provided new seals, springs, pushrods, rockers. The shop that did the guides and seals, messed up the seals so I ended up having to do them again last year causing some smoke.
No more smoke and no burning oil. I've replaced the headlamp control module, multifunction switch(headlamps), one headlight motor, the HUD just a month ago due to dimming, water pump once so far, AC Compressor and the assorted normal stuff... brakes, tires, filters, pcv and so on. Had the hose from the pcv developed a hole on the bottom of it causing surging and lugging in the engine, yet no codes. Hard to find that one, but I did.
Overall, its been a great car and its still being driven as my daily driver. Still runs strong and actually, its easier to drive than my '07!
"

Now go play with your tools!

I hope this gets answered being posted here. It looks like the right place.

I have a 2001 Coupe that I acquired (3rd owner). I don't know what maintenance has been performed but the car looks great so it was at least kept in a garage. The only problem I've noticed is that when I punch it, the engine kicks into overdrive but then kicks down as if it's starving for fuel. I took a wild guess and replaced the air filter with a K&N and that improved the performance big time. Now the problem only happens about once in about 10 tries. It must have something to do with the air/fuel mixture I'm thinking, but I don't know crap about cars. I'm a computer geek.

Could someone suggest what maintenance I should have done on this baby with 80K miles on it?

Has your fuel filter been changed? Clean upper end?

I just had my upper end torn down and despite good gas, frequent Techtron, etc. it took SIX cans of carb cleaner to get all the carbon build-up out of my plenum, intake, and throttle body.

Then I had it bead blasted, which pretty much made what I'd just done worthless but boy is it CLEAN!!

Okay, you went way over my head with the term "bead blasted". Is this something the dealer does or was this done by someone who knows engines? Is it a common term that I can use without the mechanic staring at me confused? Also, the term "upper end"...is that the plenum, intake, and throttle body? I can take the computer out of anything and reprogram it but I know nothing about car engines except how to blow'em up and break'em. I've got that down to a science.

Are you getting any codes shown in the Drivers Information Center (DIC)?
Know how to retrieve them?

How to Pull Codes:
1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)

Note: Any code that ends in an "H" is a history code (something that has occurred in the past, but is not reporting as an error currently.)

5. Once the computer has finished going through all of its codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# Codes."
6. To optionally reset codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until is displays "NO CODES."
7. Press OPTIONS to go into the next module (ie, from PCM, or Powertrain Control Module, to TCS, or Traction Control System.)
8. Repeat Step 6 until you have reset all the codes in all the computer modules.

Note: Only reset the codes if you want to- it is not necessary to reset them every time you pull the codes.

9. When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.

How to Interpret Codes
Now, once you've pulled the codes (it will usually be a letter followed by four numbers), you can go to http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm to get an interpretation of what they mean.

Now go play with your tools!

Geez dude, great info! I'll do this ASAP and see what it comes up with. I take it that if I have no codes, then nothing needs to be checked? Or, should I have something done just because of the mileage? Man, I'm glad I found you guys!
