CM Gasoline leak on C6 Z06

C4C5specialist,

I copied three different situations of gas leaking on a C6 Z06 from a different forum. Have you heard anything about this problem? Is this a problem?
Appreciate any information you can provide, especially about problem #1.

#1.

Ok this is what i have come up with. If you are worryed about this which you should be and want to do a inspecion to see if this is going to happen to you forget about it it is not visible with out dropping the exhaust. if you want to correct this problem like i did you will need to order this gm part#10288898 it is $18 and is the retaining clip that is attached to the stud. I see the only way of removing it is to cut it out because there is no clearence to the bellhousing. The stud that it is attached to is about 1/4 inch to long so i suggest you cut off 3/8 to be safe. When installing the new clip lube it up with a spray lube attach it to the lines in the tunnel open side down and slide it in to place it is a little difficult to get it back on the stud but with some prying it can get back on the stud so if you were lucky enought to get to it before it went threw the line like it did on my car you will not be buying a line anyway this is a fire hazzard and i hope gm does something about it.

**Here is his fix to problem #1**
the stud behind the line is to long and rubs threw the plastic on the outside of the line and the alum. line inside the plastic the leak will be in the tunnel by the clutch sucks to get to i cut my stud down and reinstalled never to have a problem again

"I have a problem and don't know what it is yet. I too am at MidOhio today and ran most of the day without problems. I refueled and was sitting next to the car waiting for the next session when I smelled and then saw gas dripping from under the car...between where the two tanks are located. I fear that the crossover pipe between the tanks has a crank or loose fitting (thought I read about this somewhere on here but can't find it now). MidOhio is a twisting and hilly course and I believe our aluminum frames may flex too much.

The drip would stop after I removed the gas cap and start when I put it back on. After I ran the car for a bit, the dripping stopped altogether, so I am confused and perplexed. Unfortunately, I have another day scheduled for tomorrow that will be a loss because I don't want to risk a catastrophic failure. The hot exhaust pipes are right there where the drip is.

I just wonder if there is a place where gas could have gotten (like a vent) due to the pumps at MidOhio. They are very fast and powerful. I just set it and waited until it shut itself off. No topoff. I called my tech and he said no gas should be dripping from that area."

"When I got back from Mid Ohio this weekend I noticed that I was smelling gas vapors around the car. We smelled it in the engine compartment and around the rear wheels. Took the car back to the dealer and he found that the gas line that runs from the tank had come loose from a clip and small hole developed. They are replacing the line tomorrow. The line is a hard plastic formed piece. Seems like this should have been made out of metal. I am lucky that we did not have a fire. The line is sealed up above the bottom plates and you can not inspect it without removing the bottom plates. Any one else have this problem?"

HI there,
While personally, I have experienced only one leak point so far, there are NO preliminary documents in GM as of this time.
However, I have seen a number of leaks due to drivelines being removed and modifications to the fuel system as part of a fuel system upgrade for supercharging.
Allthebest, c4c5
