I have 76 Corvette that makes a growling type noise in the rear end (or somewhere in the back of the car) when it has been driven a lot. For instance if I drive it only a few miles around town I don't hear anything. Today I drove it about 60 miles on the interstate. After getting off the interstate I was at a stop light. When I started going and making a right turn, I heard a deep growling type of noise coming from somewhere in the back end. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side in the back, but I am not 100% certain if it's the driver's side or the center of the back of the car. If I take off going straight, I don't hear it. If I take off and turn to the left I hear it again. How do I tell if it's a problem with the differential, or the wheel bearings, or the brakes? |

HI there, The first thing that you should do is to put the car up in the air with the wheels hanging. Grip the tire at the 12 and 6 position and move the tire in and out. Then, at the 3 and 9 position, do the same, You should have less than 1/16 inch play. This will test the wheel bearings, but based on what you have stated, its mostly from the left when you are turning right, I would be checking the left rear wheel bearing first. Allthebest, c4c5
