are you talking about the remotes for the door locks . try pressing the lock and unlock buttons at the same time the locks should cycle and resyncronize the system if we are talking the same thing .nothing to do with passlock

It is the "Passive Keyless Entry System" that is nt working. The remote only has a "door" & "hatch" button. No lock or unlock on it. It is supposed to automatically lock/unlock the door when in range.

Thank you for your response.

To activate or turn off the system hold down the door button only until you hear/see the door locks cycle. To determine if the system is active put the key in the ignition to the "on" position. If you see passive keyless entry lit up in the lower left of the dic you are set. If not recycle the locks until it is lit. Since the system is inactive I assume it wasn't lit prior.

If that works then put the key in the ignition, donot turn "on" & use the door button to select which door (s) open when you approach the car.

If the system is inactive the door button will only open the hatch & or pass/door.

The remote isn't working at all. I replaced the battery, still nothing. Doesn't look like there is a separate fuse for that function. Thanks

I guess the first order of business is to find out if the remote is any good .Autozone usually has a remote tester up near their register because they want to sell you batteries go there and test it and we can be on with the chase Steve you also could go to the dealer I do not know if they would charge for that service

Do you have an FSM available? If not, I can send some scans to you that will help you diagnose the problem. Suggest you don't start buying parts until you determine what's wrong.

HI there,
HOLD ON A MINUTE!!!!!
Even the GM tester for the remote key fobs does NOT test the c4 PKE remotes.
That being said, the first thing to do is to possibly test it by holding the door button as was mentioned above.
The system works unlike ANY OTHER system in the GM line and that MUST be understood.
Allthebest, c4c5

Tried holding the button, but nothing. Have not seen this on a GM before. Also, if you don't mind another problem, my windows don't like to go back up after it rains or I have washed it. Sometimes my window, sometimes the passenger side. A couple days later, maybe when it dries, they work again? Thank you for all your assistance, Bob J.

Well, that is interesting, considering if your having window problems.
Thats because the ANTENNAS for the PKE system are in the door.
That door panel should be removed and wiring system inspected.

Can you give some background on the car. Did you just buy it? Was the PKE working & then stopped? Did you attempt to re-program. Anything will be helpful. You need a place to start.

Ciao,

Door panel removal looks to be a challenge; I'm sure you've done it.

Ciao,
Just bought it a couple weeks ago. Had an '89 IROC Z28 for the last 17 years. Got totaled by a hit/run, no insurance, no english s.o.b. Anyway, the PKE didn't work when I got it, nor the CD player. Tried new battery, reprogramming; but nothing. Also, my windows (one or the other) don't like to go up after rain or a wash. After a few days they work again. Thanks for your help on this. Love the car; what a difference from the Camaro. My last Vette was an '82 Collectors, Bob J.
