CM Power increase, for cheap!!!

HI there,
Many owners of any car do not realize just how lousy todays fuels are.
Fact is, the formulations by most fuel manufacturers barely meet EPA guidelines for keeping injectors and intake valves and combustion chamers clean.

The first thing that an owner can do is to...

I have gone from Getty to Mobil and now to Hess... the first two have caused coating on the sending unit and failure of the fuel gauge... then a bottle of Techron brings the gauge back to life.... have had this happen 3 time this summer after filling up... Hess seems to be ok so far... works for me.... we pay a lot of $$$ for junk fuel !!! H2o Maker...

i run shell which is a top teir fuel and amoco/bp which is not. i can without a doubt say i like amoco/bp better. no pinging at all compared to shell. i am referring to the use in my avalanche while trailering. when under heavy load is when i notice the pinging with shell.

How can you say that all fuel is crap? Here in Auburndale, Florida every pump has seals from the department of Agriculture(I believe it is them) vouching for the quality of the product. I have seen them stopping the sale of some product from some pumps occasionally for lack of quality standards too. So I like to believe that I am getting quality fuel.

CM more data being collected

Hess runs my C5 just fine and my 6liter SSR I have been running Walmart. No difference but I also use the Techron regularly in both. Mobil 1 oil has a great 'slick' feature and I notice about .2 increase in mpg according to the DIC when I stay with mobil 1 and chevron or BP. I change around trying to get the numbers for a profile - still working on it.

HI there,
The fact is that the fuels formulated by the EPA are very poor.
They do not have as much detergency, nor do they provide as much power as the fuels of just even 5 years ago because of the addition of ethanol.
If you are using a Techron additive, you are compensating for the detergency that NEEDS to be in fuels.

Has anyone considered this: Top Tier may be a proprietary standard. Maybe it's one owned by GM and for which vendors must pay for certification, much like "Windows Certified".

I've never heard that this was a certification from withing the petroleum industry.

What I mean is that other gasoline vendors may have products every bit as good and with detergents every bit as effective, but they simply haven't paid to have their products Top Tier certified.

Ford even puts an ad 'recommending' BP fuels on their gas caps. Does this mean Fords run better on BP than Chevron? I doubt it. More likely, BP simply paid Ford.

I personally run BP or Mobil with no ill effects. I ran Shell, the only Top Tier available here in Michigan, but their stations are hard to find and they do business with Iran.
